Ottawa Update, Rally, Petition, and Letter Writing Campaign
Campaign Updates, Events March 3rd, 2009In early February we were notified by the company that handles bus advertising for OC Transpo that our ad had been rejected by OC Transpo staff. On February 11, Alex Cullen, Ottawa city councilor and chair of the Ottawa Transit Committee, brought a motion before the committee to have the rejection overturned. The vote was a tie, so the motion failed and the rejection was upheld. On February 25, at the full City Council meeting, Alex Cullen tabled a motion to overturn the rejection and permit the ad. This motion is to be discussed and voted upon at the next council meeting, on 11 March. If you would like to support the right to freedom of speech, and the idea that freedom of religion must include and acknowledge the freedom to have no religion at all, please sign the petition below. Some other ways you can help:
- Come to the council meeting at City Hall on Wednesday, 11 March (more information here)
- Write a letter to your city councilor (email addresses here and suggestions for letters here)
- Sign the petition to be presented to members of the City Council in advance of the 11 March meeting
- Join the Facebook group – tell your friends

God will be there with you in Ottawa.
God is everywhere – even in the pixels on this blog. God says “I am”
Je suis ….. Jesu is. “God”
That means that the pixels on this page are denying their own existence.
But , they are still here. You are reading them.

Ok, now its formal, we are having a rally at city hall…
I will check today to see if i can get the day off…
Anyone from toronto, durham region, or on the way to ottawa that wants a ride, or wants to give me a ride, please let me know.
Lol Gabriel there exists forms of “proof” other than semantics, do you have any?

Here Devon:
Quantum entanglement is a possible property of a quantum mechanical state of a system of two or more objects in which the quantum states of the constituting objects are linked together so that one object can no longer be adequately described without full mention of its counterpart — even though the individual objects may be spatially separated. This interconnection leads to non-classical correlations between observable physical properties of remote systems, often referred to as nonlocal correlations. For example, quantum mechanics holds that states such as spin are indeterminate until such time as some physical intervention is made to measure the spin of the object in question. It is equally likely that any given particle will be observed to be spin-up as that it will be spin-down. Measuring any number of particles will result in an unpredictable series of measures that will tend more and more closely to half up and half down. However, if this experiment is done with entangled particles the results are quite different. When two members of an entangled pair are measured, one will always be spin-up and the other will be spin-down. The distance between the two particles is irrelevant. Theories involving ‘hidden variables’ have been proposed in order to explain this result; these hidden variables account for the spin of each particle, and are determined when the entangled pair is created. It may appear then that the hidden variables must be in communication no matter how far apart the particles are, that the hidden variable describing one particle must be able to change instantly when the other is measured. If the hidden variables stop interacting when they are far apart, the statistics of multiple measurements must obey an inequality (called Bell’s inequality), which is, however, violated — both by quantum mechanical theory and in experiments.

Devon,
You can pick me up in Merrickville. I’ll start making my signs.
We will discuss Quantum Entanglement on the way.
March 4th, 2009 at 12:16 pm
Gabriel why would you need to go to ottawa? Does the (universe) God have an itch it needs to scratch?
I don’t see what quantum entanglement has to do with anything…thats the reason you believe the universe is a conscious being? Somehow I doubt that it was while you were learning physics that you came up with your view. I would say it seems like you started with your assumption and now look through scientific theories to see if there is anything close enough that you can twist to just barely lend credence (not really though…) to something that is both vague and ill defined

Oh, I must mention that I have been in corespondence with Marianne Wilkinson, she didn’t seem to understand what atheism was…I directed her to the atheism page on this site. However she had already made up her mind and jumped rather inconsistently around trying to find something to support a ban. I repeatedly tried to show why her reasoning was flawed but she just moved on to some other scrap of an argument. Now she seems to be bored of anwering my e-mails.

Devon,
Ok thanks – I found another way to Ottawa.
My sign will read Luke 17:21
I will also be performing several miracles.
You will know me when you see me.

Gen 3:11 And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
John 3:11 I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony.
Gal 3:11 Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.”
Exodus 3:11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?”

Devon,
The key to understanding Quantum Entanglement is sound – Aum (Amen)
In the Hindu tantra the universe is sound. The supreme (para) brings forth existence through the Word (Shabda). Creation consists of vibrations at various frequencies and amplitudes giving rise to the phenomena of the world. The purest vibrations are the var.na, the imperishable letters which are revealed to us, imperfectly as the audible sounds and visible forms.
The seed syllable Aum represents the underlying unity of reality, which is Brahman.

Gabriel, I’m curious… do you give all your own comments five-star ratings? I’m seeing a lot of your comments on this site with “Rating: 5.0/5 (1 vote cast)” and I’m seriously having a hard time seeing anyone else giving them that score.

Mark X.
The boss announces, “Our CEO has voluntarily slashed his pay from US$6 million per year to US$4 million. In a written statement, he said he wants to ‘share the pain.’ Do you feel better now?” A downtrodden intern replies, “I make my underpants from sandwich bags.”

I got the day off so I will be going! I think I will have at least 2 seats free in my car, I will be driving from bowmanville, so if anyone wants to meet up and carpool let me know my e-mail is devonkime@hotmail.com.
Gabriel maybe you should seek psychological help, you seem to be growing more irrational and firing out bible quotes far faster than normal.

What’s with this guy who spouts nonsense?
Why doesn’t he just STFU?

Devon,
Woops – I forgot to include the source for my CEO quote above. Luke 18:25

Feb 2009 NewScientist
According to Heisenberg, it is impossible to measure both the momentum and position of a quantum particle accurately because those properties are interlinked. Measuring one therefore makes the other more uncertain. That’s because individual particles are considered parts of a probability “wave”, in which many possible combinations of position and momentum exist simultaneously. But Maurice de Gosson at the University of Vienna in Austria thinks that the inability to pin a particle down is due to something called symplectic geometry, not quantum weirdness.

For the first several hundred thousand years of its life, the Universe was so hot that it glowed. Everything in the Universe gave off light, and scattered light.
We have all descended from that scattered light.
March 5th, 2009 at 11:19 am
Everything in the Universe still gives off light. It’s called black body radiation. Things near room temperate don’t give off enough of the type of light our eyes see for it to be visible, but it’s there. It’s how infrared detectors on public washroom water faucets work.

Based on the email responses I received from the city councillors they are likely going to vote to uphold the decision of OC Transpo.
An online petition with the names of non-residents on it is not very impressive. These councillors will vote according to the wishes of their constituents.
March 6th, 2009 at 9:51 am
Skepticalynda, have many of them have gotten back to you? I only got responses from 5 or so and most just thanked me for my input. Last I checked the page with how they were hinking of voting showed 9 for and 6 against, with 9 undecided. I don’t think that many of their constituents actually have a problem with the ads…However you are correct that there is a problem with democracy, its easy to get tyranny of the majority in place, but thats why we have the charter and the supreme court.
March 6th, 2009 at 3:20 pm
You need to come up with another slogan that meets their policy.
Either there is a “God” or there isn’t a “God”. Who knows ?
This would open the debate. If that is what you want.
March 6th, 2009 at 11:02 pm
Devon,
I wrote eleven city councillors asking them to support Alex Cullen and vote to allow the ads. Three stated in their responses that they would vote against allowing the ads. Two responded that they were planning on voting to allow the ads. Five sent confirmation that my views would be reviewed and considered, but did not state how they planned on voting. One of the councillors mentioned that the OC Transpo advertising policy might need to be changed.
