Photos of the Atheist Bus ads in Toronto
Advertising, Photos February 23rd, 2009Hello everyone.
Here are some pictures of the Toronto Atheist Bus ads, which are now running.
Isn’t it nice to finally see the ads in Canada? We took these photos while the bus was posing for us at the TTC garage. If you happen to see one of the bus ads in the wild and have a camera, we encourage you to take your own pictures and share them with us. With your permission, we’ll place them on our website.
You can email your photos to us at photos(at)atheistbus.ca or you can post them to our forum.
You can find more official pictures here.

Please feel perfectly free to reuse and remix these photos. (Though,if you could credit the photos to our website it would be much appreciated).
Thanks!

very nice!! I could get used to seeing that. Unfortunate about the other cities but it’s great to see this type of progress being made in Canada. Every bit counts.

Beautiful! Hope I can make it to Toronto one day and see it in person. Any chance of getting Richard Dawkins to stand in the picture?

Why get “Richard Dawkins to stand in the picture”? We have scientists of our own. Larry Moran, in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Toronto, has posted information about The Canadian Atheist Bus Campaign on his blog, Sandwalk: http://sandwalk.blogspot.com/

Congratulations to y’all – and the TTC.

Actually, it is nice. Anything that increases God-centered questions in public is good for Christianity. There are a growing number of Christians who are beginning to realize this. Stop worrying and enjoy.

Congratulations on seeing your campaign realised. You’ve set a great example to others.

It’s funny that even in our success some religious folks try to claim its a failure on our part and a success for them. I guess it’s hard to stop believing in fiction when it’s intertwined with your life Anglican, but if you want to lie to yourself by claiming that our campaign is helping Christianity grow, go for it. Statistics Canada show the opposite, religion has been on a steady decrease in the majority of the country.

Dear Anglican —
Actually, no, the questions do not center on your version of the god fable. They center on rationality, reason, and a request for evidence to support outrageous claims, such as astrology, reincarnation, zombies, fairies, angels, prayer, and invisible friends.

Chris, H, Jim, Nick, Hal, Trevor, Vronvron, Justin etc.
Ok – Now that we know for almost certain that there is no God. How do we improve the world.
Have any of you read Tolstoy’s “The Kingdom of God is within you”
It’s not about “God”, by the way – so you don’t need to be afraid to read it. It has some excellent ideas on how to make the world a better place. It was a key piece of literature for Martin Luther King Jr.and Mahatma Ghandi.
It helped to end slavery and free India.
I believe that the only way to make the world a better place is to stop all the killing. Passive and non-violent resistance.
What are your thoughts ?

Gabriel,
Take a look at this site:
http://adventure.howstuffworks.com/dangerous-animals.htm
Humans don’t know how to make the world a better place, even if we knew what “better” actually meant.

Well, if someone attacks you and your family, I don’t suppose you will stand back and allow it. By making the world a better place for YOU, you probably will be making it a worse place for others. Saying, “We must stop all the killing,” is simplistic and naive. Aggression is an integral part of the human character, and will never be expunged.

nice one Canada! 1 question… Do you have them in English and French or is that just other parts of Canada?

Good to see the the free thinking campaign outside London
And thanks for the book tip Gabriel, I just brought a copy of Tolstoy’s “The Kingdom of God is within you” on Amazon.

Lynda,
I’m not sure I understand. We have the knowledge to reduce death by malaria. For some reason we have decided to spend our wealth on toys, yachts, private jets, big cars, big houses, recreational drugs.
For starters, I would say “better” would be feeding people, showing kindness and not killing each other.
Do you disagree ?
February 27th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
H –
I find that most of ther atheists on here take the same delight in “killing” their enemy as many religious extremists do.
I am disappointed. I thought that humanists would respect all life ?
Are there “humanist atheists” and “non-humanist atheists” then ?
February 27th, 2009 at 5:37 pm
Gabriel, what makes you say atheists take delight in killing anything? Why would you say such a thing?
Also, did you expect all atheists to be humanists? Why would you think that. We really only have one thing in common and that is that we don’t believe there is a god and even that seems to vary in degree. We don’t even all agree on the definition of atheist…

Blondin,
Well the number of atheists that argue with me saying that it is human nature to want to kill each other (in self defense is larger than the number of theists who think that God’s command “thou shalt not kill” really means “thou shalt not murder” (kill=murder)
I think the biggest problem in the world is that we do not respect life.
If you are ok with killing, soldiers, armies and war then I don’t care what you believe – you do not believe in the gift of life.

I’m so happy that we live in a time when something like this can exist.

Even a ‘victory’ in what is evidently a battle between theists and non theists isn’t surefire here.
“There’s PROBABLY no god. Stopping worrying…”
Really now?
“Dear consumer,
We aren’t sure, but we’re PROBABLY right….so hey, ride our bus and feel really good about yourself!”
What does that POSSIBLY to do help ANYONE?

Totally awesome. Really appreciate all your work!
